Our Mediation Process

At Northeast Ohio Family Law and Mediation LLC, we guide our clients through the mediation process by identifying creative options and solutions to family law matters.  We help our clients sit down together to discuss the issues and make important life decisions and agreements they will keep.

We provide a roadmap with our key principles:

  • Educate. We identify the issues, provide general information on the legal process and topics for discussion, and help our clients prepare for each mediation session.
  • Support. We gather documents, provide tools and resources for reviewing information, and refer our clients to attorneys for consultation and filing court paperwork. We also coordinate joint experts for valuing real estate, business interests, retirement benefits, and separate property.
  • Facilitate. We discuss the issues, offer options and potential solutions, and draft the agreements known as memorandums of understanding. We also introduce other professionals such as parenting coaches, counselors, and financial advisors when needed.

Why NEO Family Law?

We understand the sensitive nature of family and importance of preserving relationships, especially when children are involved. We pride ourselves in bringing people together to have difficult conversations, while appreciating the legal and personal realities. Most importantly, we maintain confidentiality and equity throughout the process.

We are credentialed and have subject-matter expertise. Our mediator is a family law attorney by trade who knows the ins and outs of the legal process, can identify complex financial and legal issues, and has the savvy and skillset to offer options and potential solutions based on experience.

We are comprehensive and thorough. We collect and exchange information so our clients can make informed decisions. We use software to show spousal support options and child support guidelines. We draft detailed memorandums of understanding for separation agreements, shared parenting plans, and other agreements.

We operate with integrity and require our clients to do the same. We are mindful that mediation can be used to circumvent traditional legal processes for gain and to address those challenges, we require full disclosure of information to provide a level playing field and fair result.

Benefits of Mediation

Family Focused and Amicable

We offer a collaborative “work-together” process designed to improve communications and relationships. We help our clients have difficult yet necessary conversations so they can cooperate and co-parent.

Less Expensive than Alternatives

Our mediation process is cost-efficient and less expensive than other legal processes even with attorneys involved. The average cost of traditional legal disputes is $10,000 per person and is more expensive with litigation ($20-30,000+ per person), which we help our clients prevent.

Structured and Efficient Process

We simplify and streamline the process. Mediation takes 2-6 months depending on the issues and desired pace. Other legal processes can take 12-18 months. We also bypass shuttled negotiations that cause misunderstandings and delays.

Fair and Lasting Agreements

We provide our clients control over the outcome, which minimizes future conflict. We encourage creative solutions that are agreed upon rather than forced. We find that people who commit to agreements stick to agreements, which are followed into the future.

Private Setting

We prevent the public display of private problems because mediation is confidential. Our mediator cannot share information (except abuse or crimes) or testify in court. We provide comfortable conference rooms that invite peaceful discussions.
